Review of Legal Studies unit standards 2017

Open for Consultation 24 Aug 2017 - 30 Sep 2017

The 18 graded unit standards in Legal Studies have been reviewed by a panel of stakeholders.  As a result of the review:

  • the understand / explain / evaluate structure has been retained for the three standards within a topic
  • levels and credits have not been changed
  • changes to the standards have not affected the outcomes; the title of only one standard (27851) has been amended, to clarify rather than to change (refer to the table below)
  • changes have focused largely on the grading criteria to simplify and clarify, and to achieve better consistency of language and approach throughout the standards, without making material changes to the intent
  • the standards reflect the new template, where Explanatory notes are renamed Guidance information, and Evidence requirements become Performance criteria
  • the Last date for assessment for the current/superseded version of the standards will be 31 December 2019
  • assessment support material will be updated to reflect the new version of the standards.

Individual reviewed standards are available through the table below.  Original/current standards are available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/explore/domain.do?frameworkId=75836 .  The six non-graded Legal Studies standards were not included in the review.

Your feedback is invited on any aspect of this review and can be addressed to nqs@nzqa.govt.nz by 30 September 2017.

Important note: These draft standards are for consultation purposes only. No assessment can occur against these standards until the listed versions are published.
