Digital Assessment: NCEA Digital Trials and Pilots

TrialsandPilotsbanner1

As part of NZQA’s digital transformation journey, we are investigating digital methods of assessment, with the aim of having all examinations (where appropriate) online by 2020.

Digital Trials and Pilots will help schools and students make the transition to digital assessment by enabling schools to test their readiness, and provide an opportunity for students to experience assessment in a digital format.

General knowledge quiz

NZQA has developed a general knowledge quiz as an activity that enables schools to evaluate the quality of their network (e.g. internet speeds) for the purposes of completing Digital Trials and Pilots. The ability to test school infrastructure using a quiz was a suggestion from teacher focus groups held in 2016.

The quiz takes about 20 minutes to complete. We suggest each school organises for a number of students to complete the quiz activity at the same time, using the expected maximum number of students who might participate in the Digital Trials and Pilots on any given day.

Answers have been provided on the PDF below. Students need to 'mark' their own responses against the answers as they go through the quiz, as the answers are not saved.
