National Statistics released
04 Apr 2010
National secondary school statistics for NCEA and Scholarship are now available online.
New features in the 2009 statistics include:
- data in both single-year (current) and cumulative format
- scholarship Entries and Results data
- data on Literacy and Numeracy requirements for NCEA level 1.
National statistics will continue to be available calculated on both participation-based and roll-based denominators, as was the case for the 2008 statistics. The participation denominator for a given qualification is the number of students who entered in sufficient credits to potentially gain that qualification by the end of a given year.
Deputy Chief Executive Qualifications, Bali Haque said the statistics are there to assist schools and teachers in their planning and any comparisons between schools should be treated with caution.
"Schools are different in the way they design their courses and qualifications for students. The public should be aware that factors like decile, roll numbers and courses offered, will influence a school's statistics."
A NCEA and NZ Scholarship Annual Report for 2009, containing an analysis of the statistics, will be released in late April.
