Report on NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship data released

31 May 2018

The Annual Report on NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship Data and Statistics (2017) publication, presenting analysis of 2017 assessments, is now available

The publication provides information and commentary on:

  • the 2017 NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship results and comparisons with those of prior years
  • achievement in NCEA and University Entrance, broken down by gender, ethnicity and school decile
  • NCEA Literacy and Numeracy achievement by gender, ethnicity and decile band
  • University Entrance literacy and numeracy achievement (new)
  • Certificate Endorsement and Course Endorsement
  • the 2017 New Zealand Scholarship awards
  • NCEA administrative processes such as Special Assessment Conditions and investigations into breaches of examination rules.

Please note from next year that NCEA and University Entrance attainment will no longer be reported using the roll-based statistical measure. NZQA and the Ministry of Education have combined information sources to develop an updated measure of NCEA attainment which will be in use from January 2019.  To ensure that trend information is available, NZQA will publish data from the last several years using the new measure.

NZQA will be consulting with schools from late June on how the new measure of NCEA attainment should apply when reporting school-level NCEA attainment in 2019.
