New incentives proposed for tertiary education providers
14 Jul 2010
NZQA is consulting on a new system of incentives and sanctions proposed for the non-university tertiary education providers.
The proposed incentives and sanctions would apply equally to institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs), private training establishments (PTEs), wānanga and government training establishments (GTEs).
The proposed incentives would reward high-performing providers identified by NZQA’s External Evaluation and Review (EER) quality assurance process with a lower level of external scrutiny for course approval and accreditation.
Conversely, new applications for course approval and accreditation from poorly performing providers would not be considered until performance improved. They may also be subject to removal of existing accreditations.
Under the proposed sanctions, poorly performing providers would also be subject to more frequent EER visits.
