Release of Annual Report on NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship Data and Statistics (2010)
18 Apr 2011
The Annual Report on NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship Data and Statistics (2010) publication, presenting analysis of the 2010 NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship assessments, is now available on NZQA’s public website.
The publication provides information on:
- The 2010 NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship results, and comparisons with those of prior years.
- Comparisons of attainment of NCEA qualifications by male and female candidates, by Māori, Pasifika, Asian and European candidates, and by candidates at schools across different deciles.
- Attainment of NCEA qualifications with Merit or Excellence Endorsement.
- Distributions of results for externally-assessed Achievement Standards, internally-assessed Achievement Standards and Unit Standards.
- Moderation of internal assessments, including levels of agreement between teachers and NZQA moderators.
In 2010, higher proportions of candidates gained NCEA qualifications at all three levels than in any previous year. Furthermore, particularly at Levels 1 and 2, there was a reduction in the differences in the achievement rates between Maori and Pasifika candidates and those for European and Asian candidates. Similarly, there was a reduction in the achievement gap between candidates at higher decile schools and those at low decile schools.
For internally-assessed standards, NZQA moderators agreed with 91% of teachers’ assessment judgements in respect of students either receiving or not receiving credit. This was up from 83% in 2009, and was higher than in any previous year.
Deputy Chief Executive, Qualifications, Bali Haque said: “We have created this publication, now in its second edition, as a resource that the secondary school sector can refer to, as well as the public in general”.
NZQA is happy to report that achievement rates for NCEA at all levels has improved, and that students, in general, are staying on at school longer and achieving more.”
