Transitioning NZNC students' reassessments

12 Jun 2017

After a voluntary programme withdrawal by New Zealand National College (NZNC) the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has been working with New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) over the past few weeks to manage the transfer of Level 5 & 6 Business programme students from NZNC.

In order for NZMA to provide a comprehensive package of learning and support for NZNC students, this process involved validating transitioning students’ English language proficiency and previous credit attainment.

Over 400 students affected by the course closure will be receiving the results of their reassessed material and English language testing from NZMA this week.

Individual student eligibility for continuing re-enrolment is still being assessed on a case by case basis, but at least 35 per cent of students appear not to be eligible to continue with their studies.

The remaining students have either been offered a place at NZMA or are being given the opportunity to provide additional evidence to confirm their eligibility for enrolment.

We appreciate this is an uncertain time for students. NZQA and NZMA are making every effort to keep students fully informed as to the outcome of this process and to ensure students know how to access support.

NZQA and NZMA will provide updates and timeframes directly to students when further information is available.

If any student of NZNC has not yet been in contact with NZQA, we would encourage them to email NZNCstudent@nzqa.govt.nz or phone 0800 697 296, so that appropriate assistance can be provided. They can also contact NZMA regarding the results of the re-marking by emailing NZNCstudent@acgedu.com.

NZQA is still in the process of determining the quality of NZNC’s other programmes to identify if further action is warranted. As this process is still underway we are unable to advise of the outcome.

We have a substantial programme in place to monitor programmes being offered by Private Training Establishments (PTEs). Where there is evidence that quality education has not been delivered, and correct assessment has not taken place, NZQA will intervene and take strong action. Our top priority is to protect students and ensure the integrity of their qualifications.
