Assessment of CAS Mathematics standards in 2011

There will be no NCEA examinations offered for any of the CAS mathematics external achievement standards in 2011. This applies to the following standards:

• Level 1 - 90799 and 90800 (CAS Mathematics 1.1, 1.2), which are now expired standards
• Level 2 - 90806, 90807, 90808 (CAS Mathematics 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)
• Level 3 – 90833, 90834, 90835 (CAS Calculus 3.1, 3.2, 3.3).

In 2010 there were no candidates for any of the level 1 or level 2 CAS mathematics external standards. There were only eight candidates who sat the level 3 CAS mathematics external standards.

Because so few candidates attempted last year’s external CAS mathematics standards, and as there will not be separate CAS mathematics external achievement standards post-Standards Alignment, NZQA will not be setting examinations for any of the current CAS standards in 2011 or beyond.
