Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standard 91027, 1.2 Apply algebraic procedures in solving problems, 4 credits, is assessed by a Common Assessment Task.
Schools will administer the MCAT during school time on Tuesday 18 September and/or Wednesday 19 September 2012.
Candidates are permitted only ONE opportunity to complete the MCAT, but schools may require more than one session to administer it to all of their candidates.
Schools must nominate which day(s) they will hold the MCAT, and specify the number of examination booklets required on each day. This information will be requested in a circular to be published in term 2, 2012, and must be submitted to NZQA by 1 August 2012. Candidate entries for AS91027 must be included in the 1 August file submission.
Candidates will have 60 minutes to complete the assessment.
Teachers will be required to mark their candidates’ work using the schedule provided, submit provisional results online and send a sample of papers to NZQA for verification by Monday 29 October 2012. The assessment schedule for teachers to use for marking will be published on the NZQA schools’ secure website on Monday 24 September 2012.
Verified papers will be returned to schools along with the results of verification by late November. Teachers will be required to enter final results online by Friday 7 December.
The Administrative Guidelines for the management of the MCAT will be provided online in term 2, 2012. Schools should administer the MCAT as they would an internal assessment, following internal procedures for moderating evidence between teachers and classes, and ensuring that the assessment procedures comply with the NZQA Assessment and Examination Rules and Procedures 2012 for external assessment.
