Changes to the Submission Process for Level 1 Technology External Assessment for 2011
This circular gives information about the submission of materials for the following externally assessed level 1 Technology Achievement Standards:
| AS91048 | Demonstrate understanding of how technological modelling supports decision-making |
| AS91049 | Demonstrate understanding of how materials enable technological products to function |
| AS91050 | Demonstrate understanding of the role of subsystems in technological systems |
| AS91053 | Demonstrate understanding of design elements |
| AS91070 | Demonstrate understanding of the role of basic concepts of information management |
| AS91074 | Demonstrate understanding of basic concepts from computer science |
Changes to the submission process in 2011 for these standards were signalled in an Assessment Matters circular in August, 2010. A2010/016, Review of External Assessment for Technology for Implementation in 2011.
Changes to the submission were also signalled within the 2011 Level 1 Technology Assessment Specifications published in December 2010.
The major change is that NZQA will provide each candidate with one folder for each standard they have entered. Examples of the folder cover sheets can be found on the Level 1 Technology Subject Resources page. Each folder will be individually printed with the candidate’s NSN, Achievement Standard number and Authenticity Statement for candidate and teacher completion. Entries must be submitted by 1 September 2011 to ensure Level 1 Technology candidates receive personalised folders.
Each folder will be 32.5 cm long by 23 cm wide. The folder will be large enough to hold 14 sheets of A4 paper (or seven sheets of A3 paper folded to A4), plus one CD/DVD within a plastic case.
Folders will be delivered to Principal’s Nominees on 5 or 6 October. In addition to the folders, schools will receive a list of candidate entries, packing materials and packing instructions. Candidates must place their own work within the folder provided to them unless they are unable to do so due to absence or disability. Candidates must check that the correct material for each standard has been placed in the relevant folder and then sign the Authenticity Statement. The Authenticity Statement must also be signed by the instructing teacher.
All Level 1 Technology folders are to be collected by New Zealand Couriers on either Monday 31 October, Tuesday 1 November or Wednesday 2 November, along with Level 1 Design and Visual Communication Technology and Levels 2, 3 and Scholarship Graphics and Technology submissions.
Note: This circular does not relate to the following externally assessed Technology Design and Visual Communication Standards:
| AS91063 | Produce freehand sketches that communicate design ideas |
| AS91064 | Produce instrumental, multi-view orthographic drawings that communicate technical features of design ideas |
| AS91065 | Produce instrumental paraline drawings to communicate design ideas |
