Reduction in the number of pieces of student evidence required for required Learning Languages portfolios

After consultation between the Ministry of Education, New Zealand Association of Language Teachers, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, the required quantity of evidence for the writing and interaction standards in Learning Languages has been reduced from three, four or five pieces, to at least two.

This change also means that if the student has shown they have met the standard in two pieces of evidence, schools will only be required to send these two pieces for external moderation.

The guidelines around word count and speaking times have not changed.

As in previous years, teachers uncertain if a student has met a standard may elect to gather additional evidence.

Conditions of Assessment, TKI Assessment Resources and Clarifications documents are being updated to reflect the change.
