Status of draft Level 3 Te Marautanga o Aotearoa-derived achievement standards for University Entrance

NZQA is preparing to consult New Zealand universities and Universities New Zealand (UNZ) about how learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA) will be incorporated into the University Entrance requirement. The outcome of the consultation is likely to be communicated to wharekura and schools from May 2016.

Draft Level 3 TMoA-derived achievement standards will be trialled in some wharekura and schools in 2016.

TMoA-derived achievement standards do not contribute to the current approved subject list for the University Entrance requirement set in 2010 before these standards were in development.

It is recommended that wharekura and schools consider the timing of the above consultation when developing Year 12 and 13 student learning plans for 2016, particularly if they are trialling the draft Level 3 TMoA-derived achievement standards. Wharekura and schools whose students trial the draft Level 3 TMoA achievement standards in Term 1 and Term 2 of 2016 will not know the outcome of the consultation before their students are assessed against these standards, and should ensure that their students have entered for sufficient credits from three of the subjects on the current approved subject list as part of meeting the University Entrance requirement.
