Status of Level 3 Te Marautanga o Aotearoa-derived achievement standards for University Entrance

The new Level 3 Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA)-derived achievement standards will become available for use by schools and students from the beginning of 2017.  They will contribute towards NCEA level 3.

NZQA is intending to consult on the incorporation of learning and achievement derived from TMoA into the University Entrance approved subject list from February 2017.  The outcome is likely to be communicated from May 2017.  Until consultation and final decisions, the new Level 3 TMoA derived achievement standards will not contribute to meeting the three approved subject requirement for University Entrance.

The Level 3 TMoA derived te reo Rangatira standards have been available for use since the beginning of 2016 and will continue to contribute toward meeting the approved subject requirement for University Entrance.

It is recommended that wharekura and schools consider the timing of the forthcoming consultation and communication of the outcome in developing Year 12 and Year 13 student learning programmes for 2017. Wharekura and schools should ensure that their students have entered for sufficient credits in standards from three of the subjects on the current approved subject list as part of meeting the University Entrance requirement.
