Reviews and Reconsiderations
Once candidates have received their marked 2011 examination answer booklets, they may approach teachers for advice and guidance about applying for a review or reconsideration. The following information is designed to assist schools with this process.
Review
Candidates should be reminded that a review is only appropriate for processing errors, such as the incorrect transcription of a grade. There is no fee for a review.
Reconsideration
Requesting a reconsideration will cause the entire booklet to be re-marked against the original assessment schedule. Before requesting a reconsideration candidates should review the achievement criteria as detailed in the relevant judgement statement. The judgement statements arise out of the assessment schedule for each standard and are published on the NZQA website.
The following fees apply to reconsideration, although these fees will be refunded in the event the reconsideration is successful.

Level 3 and Scholarship Visual Arts
Candidates and teachers are reminded that the process for reconsideration of level 3 and Scholarship Visual Arts results differs from that of other standards. Details of the process can be found on the Visual Arts reconsiderations for externally assessed level 3 and scholarship standards page.
The due dates for Visual Arts reconsideration applications are consistent with all other NCEA and Scholarship subjects.
Timeline
Marked NCEA answer booklets are scheduled to be posted to candidates from Wednesday, 25 January 2012, with all papers being despatched by 7 February. Review and Reconsideration application forms can be found in the learner login area. The final date for receipt of any applications for NCEA Levels 1-3 reviews and reconsiderations is Friday, 17 February 2012, but candidates should be encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Scholarship answer booklets will be sent to candidates with their result notice in mid - February. The final date for Scholarship reviews and reconsiderations is Friday, 16 March 2012. Applications received after these dates will not be considered.
Answer booklets sent back to NZQA for a review or reconsideration will be processed in batches and can take up to 4 weeks to complete. If a candidate’s result changes as part of this process, they will be able to access their updated results on the website.
Candidates relying on the outcome of a review or reconsideration for the award of University Entrance or to meet other entrance criteria should ensure that the University is aware that their application is being processed by NZQA.
Assessment Schedules and Assessment Reports will not be published until after all reconsideration processes are complete. These will be published in late March 2012.
