Impact of Christchurch Earthquake on Reviews and Reconsiderations and External Moderation
Reviews and reconsiderations
Some reviews and reconsiderations were sent to Christchurch-based markers and processing of these may be affected as a result of the earthquake. NZQA is managing this issue, but it may make take some time to resolve.
As a result, some students’ examination papers may be late in being returned to students outside of Christchurch. Some other papers may have been damaged or destroyed and will be unable to be returned. Any affected students will be contacted by NZQA. In addition, applicants from Christchurch may no longer be living at the return address listed on their Review or Reconsideration form. Any papers with a Christchurch address will be sent to NZQA in the interim and a notice will be put on the NZQA website asking affected candidates to reconfirm their delivery address.
Amended results arising out of successful Review or Reconsideration applications will be published online in the candidate’s result notice as usual.
External Moderation
A significant number of NZQA moderators are based in Christchurch and have been affected by the recent earthquake. As a result, some school moderation materials may be late in being returned to schools. As well, some material could have been damaged or destroyed and may not be able to be returned.
Some materials may be returned without a printed moderation report included. This could be the result of a moderator’s loss of printing facilities. Copies of moderation reports can be printed from the Moderation Results link on your school’s NZQA provider login Home Page. Alternatively, please contact your School Relationship Manager through your Principal’s Nominee to arrange for printed reports to be posted.
For those schools with a 1 April submission date, please do not to send any materials for moderation to a Christchurch address. These should be forwarded to:
Secondary Moderation
NZQA
Level 14
125 The Terrace
WELLINGTON 6021
Christchurch schools with a 1 April moderation submission are not required to submit materials for moderation, but can do so if it is manageable and they wish to do so.
