Introducing four new board members
The Minister of Education has appointed four new members to the NZQA Board: Jenn Bestwick, Tanira Kingi, Neil Quigley, and Murray Strong.
Jenn Bestwick has a professional career largely in strategy and business development, including roles in the health sector and KPMG. More recently she worked with Ngai Tahu as General Manager, Strategy and Planning for Ngai Tahu Holdings Group, the commercial arm of the iwi’s operations. She is the current chair of Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology and has a strong association with the tertiary sector.
Tanira Kingi is a Science Strategy Advisor with AgResearch Ltd. He is also currently a director with Agriculture ITO (since 1998) and board member of Waerenga Incorporated. He has previously held roles with Massey University’s Agricultural Systems group and past board positions with Aohanga Incorporation and Ngati Whakaue Tribal Lands. Tanira has been an advisor to a number of government agencies on Māori land issues for the past 20 years.
Neil Quigley has a long career in tertiary education management and is currently Professor of Economics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Victoria University. He serves on the boards of a number of educational organisations and companies, including being chair of the Board of Trustees of Wellington College.
Murray Strong is a professional director and an accredited member of the Institute of Directors of New Zealand. He has governance and senior management experience across a variety of sectors, including education, aviation, tourism and sport. He has served as Deputy Chairman of the Southern Regional Health School and Chairman of its finance committee. In 2006, he was appointed the first Crown Commissioner at Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT), addressing the ongoing financial and educational sustainability of the institution. Over recent years, Murray has been engaged by a number of private sector clients to assist them with their business issues.
