Literacy and Numeracy Level 1 unit standards

Updated information and resources for Literacy and Numeracy Level 1 unit standards have recently been published on the NZQA website. This material includes:

  • updated information about national external moderation, and clarifications for the standards
  • an optional observation sheet to assist with the collection of evidence for standard 26627-Use measurement to solve problems
  • examples of thematic learning modules and numeracy activities that can be integrated into broader programmes of learning, and provide opportunities for the collection of evidence towards the standards.

The updated information and new resources are available at literacy and numeracy unit standards level 1.

Literacy and Numeracy Best Practice Workshops

In 2013, separate Literacy and Numeracy Best Practice Workshops have been scheduled specifically for schools. The workshops will cover the same content as the 2013 NZQA Assessment and Moderation Workshops offered to teachers.

These full-day workshops focus on either the Literacy unit standards (26622, 26624 and 26625) or the Numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626 and 26627). Workshop participants will clarify their understanding of the requirements and grade boundaries of the standards through the use of learner work samples, and through professional discussion.

A parallel series of workshops has been scheduled for Tertiary Education Organisations.

For more information, and to register for the Literacy and Numeracy Best Practice Workshops for schools, please go to best practice workshops.
