Reconsiderations for the externally assessed level 3 and Scholarship Visual Arts standards

The reconsideration process is now available for the following Visual Arts standards:

90517 (Design) Level 3
90667 (Painting) Level 3
90668 (Photography) Level 3
90669 (Printmaking) Level 3
90670 (Sculpture) Level 3
93307 (Design) Scholarship
93306 (Painting) Scholarship
93310 (Photography) Scholarship
93309 (Printmaking) Scholarship
93308 (Sculpture) Scholarship

Applications are due at NZQA by Friday 18 February 2011 for level 3, and Friday 11 March 2011 for Scholarship.

Candidates are advised to seek advice from their school before deciding whether to apply for a reconsideration in Visual Arts. A reconsideration should only be applied for where there is such a significant difference between the expectations of a candidate’s school and the candidate’s final result that all parties suspect that an assessment or processing error may have occurred. The candidate’s Visual Arts teacher can advise whether there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that an error has occurred and whether it is worthwhile paying for a reconsideration.

Applications

Applicants must complete the application form and pay a fee for each standard/subject portfolio to be reconsidered. Completed forms should be submitted with a cheque for the correct amount and accompanying high quality A4 colour photographs, authenticated by the applicant’s Visual Arts teacher.

Where candidates are applying for reconsiderations in more than one field or for both level 3 and Scholarship in the same field, a separate application form should be completed and separate photographs sent for each application.

The applicant’s workbook must accompany reconsideration applications for Scholarship.

Fees

Level 3                $20 per standard
NZ Scholarship     $30 per field

Timeline

  • All level 3 applications must arrive by Friday 18 February 2011.
  • All Scholarship applications must arrive by Friday 11 March 2011.

Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Reconsiderations are undertaken by the Panel Leader and will be completed mid-March. Responses to applications will be sent to candidates in late March 2011 after all reconsiderations have been completed. The response will indicate whether an error has been detected. As in other subjects, Panel Leaders do not comment on the quality of the work of individual candidates; they assess the work in relation to national benchmarks.
