Transition arrangements for Level 1-3 internally assessed standards
Transition arrangements will be in place when the new internally assessed achievement standards become available at each level. There will be a one-year transition period during which the old internally assessed achievement and unit standards may still be used. The transition year is designed to provide schools with enough time for planning if they have not yet engaged with the New Zealand Curriculum. They will have two years to implement the internally assessed standards at each level.
|
Level 1 – |
transition year 2011: this means schools have until 2012 before they must implement the new Level 1 internally assessed achievement standards. |
|
Level 2 – |
transition year 2012: this means schools have until 2013 before they must implement the new Level 2 internally assessed achievement standards. |
|
Level 3 – |
transition year 2013: this means schools have until 2014 before they must implement the new Level 3 internally assessed achievement standards. |
Externally assessed achievement standards
There is no transition period for the externally assessed achievement standards because it is not possible to operate two sets of examinations. Externally assessed standards will be implemented as follows:
|
Level 1 – |
2011 |
|
Level 2 – |
2012 |
|
Level 3 – |
2013 |
Continued availability of other non-curriculum unit standards
A number of NZQA-developed, non-New Zealand Curriculum-derived unit standards will continue to exist. Unit standards in Communications (English and ESOL), for example, will not be expiring and will continue to be used extensively in many schools. Furthermore all industry training organisation unit standards will continue to be available and to contribute to NCEA. The standards alignment process does not affect these standards.
