Updated advice for German students intending to study at German universities

Schools enrolling German students intending to study at German universities are strongly advised that students need to achieve a minimum of 90 credits at Level 3 across 5 subjects. Students should aim to achieve as many Merit and Excellence credits as possible as this will generate a better result for Abitur conversion. The 90 Level 3 credits should be part of a programme of study that most closely follows the Abitur requirements.

NZQA has reached agreement with the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (Kultusministerkonferenz, KMK) of German states (Länder) for the conversion of National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 results for Abitur. This procedure will be applied for students who have commenced study in 2011 and onwards.

NZQA is working with KMK on how to provide results for use in German university applications. NZQA will send a circular by the first week of October 2011 outlining how results will be provided for use in university applications.

The general requirements for students wishing to study at German universities, and further advice, is available on the NZQA website: German recognition requirements for university entrance. This circular should be considered in conjunction with the existing advice for students planning to study at German universities.

Information for students, parents, and agents is also available (PDF, 40KB).
