Exemplars for internal standards now online
Exemplars for internally assessed standards are progressively being made available online.
The suite of subject-related materials has been available for about a year at NZQA's subject-specific web pages, and now many subjects have exemplars of assessed and moderated student work.
"Teachers will benefit greatly by having examples of student work available. NZQA's moderators have chosen examples of student assessments and describe how these have been marked," says Brent Logan, Manager Secondary Moderation.
"These are real student answers which have been reproduced because they show what it takes to achieve at a specific level. Research has shown that the most valuable exemplars to enhance teacher understanding are those at grade boundary levels and where possible these are provided.
"As sample numbers increase, it is anticipated that better examples may be found to exemplify the grade boundaries. Teachers are therefore encouraged to regularly visit the subject-specific pages," Brent says.
Different subjects have different needs and this has been accommodated with, in some cases, the provision of sound, graphics and music files in a number of different file formats.
There are also links to the growing list of exemplars for external standards.
"The subject-specific resource pages help teachers access a range of information about assessment. It's another way NZQA can provide professional support to teachers," Brent says.
Subject-specific resources are available on the NZQA website.
