Chief Executive's foreword
I’d like to highlight several documents affecting the sector and now available.
One is the Annual Report on NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship data and statistics. For the first time, student achievement has been brought together in one easy-to-use volume.
The report should be of value to schools to see the national performance of students studying towards their NCEAs and Scholarship. Copies have been sent to schools; it’s also available from our website.
A second document is progressing the changes on the targeted review of qualifications. NZQA is seeking feedback on the impact of proposed qualification design rules and development requirements for qualifications at levels 1 to 6.
By the end of June, we will have in place a single qualifications framework – the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF). A focus on outcomes-based qualifications underpins the NZQF. The proposed design rules and development requirements are integral to the development of a single, unified qualifications framework. I urge you to have a read of this (downloadable from our website) and provide feedback.
We have just completed a consultation on the quality assurance of Mātauranga Māori courses and their provision. Any tertiary education organisation (TEO) would be able to ‘opt in’ and follow the Mātauranga Māori quality assurance model. We will let you know the outcome of this consultation.
NZQA’s Statement of Intent 2010-2013 has recently been published with detail about our goals and work programmes for the 2010/11 year and beyond. It’s available on our website, or you can contact us for a copy.
