NCEA and Scholarship Subject Matter Checkers

Type: Part-time Contract | Location: New Zealand

NZQA is inviting applications for the role of NCEA and Scholarship Subject Matter Checker for the 2018 examinations:

The Subject Matter Checker will act as a fresh pair of eyes and will critique the content of an examination to ensure that there are no subject matter errors, and will provide feedback to NZQA.

Subject Matter Checkers are required for the following subject:

  • Cook Islands Māori (Level 1, 2, and 3)
  • Korean (Level 1, 2, and 3)
  • Lea Faka-Tonga (Level 1, 2, and 3)

Working relationships

The Subject Matter Checker will maintain the highest levels of security and confidentiality when liaising with allocated Assessment Team members.

Professional and personal qualities

Subject Matter Checker will demonstrate

  • extensive subject knowledge and familiarity with the New Zealand Curriculum
  • an understanding of the principles of standards-based assessment
  • experience in developing high quality assessment material for a standards-based environment
  • experience in moderating and critiquing assessment material in a standard-based environment
  • knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of the partners of the Treaty of Waitangi in an educational assessment setting, skills and knowledge in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori are desirable
  • the ability to establish constructive working relationships with other professionals
  • clear and effective communication
  • the ability to work to stringent deadlines
  • the ability to implement and maintain appropriate administrative and communication systems.
