School examinations in New Zealand generally take place in late November and early December, at the end of the school year. Once you have sat your examinations NZQA starts to mark them. At this stage schools are also asked to verify your internal assessment results. This means they make sure the results NZQA has are correct. |
What is a results notice? |
In late January NZQA posts a Results Notice to all students. This lists all the internal and external results you achieved the previous year. Universities in New Zealand and Australia use these results to decide who can be admitted there. The results and the results notice are also put on your secure login area of the NZQA website. |
Can I have my results reviewed? |
When the results notice is sent out, all students have the opportunity to ask for reconsideration or review of their results if they think there has been an error. This period lasts for 6 weeks. At any time in the six weeks after you receive your results notice you can write to NZQA and ask that your results be checked. The instructions for how to do this are posted with the results notice. The cut off date for reconsiderations and reviews in 2006 is March 15. |
What is a record of achievement? |
| Every student who completes NCEA standards while studying in New Zealand has a record of achievement. A record of achievement is a list of every NCEA standard you have achieved. |
How do I receive my record of achievement? |
The official transcript of the record of achievement is automatically sent to all Year 13 students in April. It is also sent to other students who have requested it at this time. Please note: If you have not paid your assessment fees you WILL NOT be issued with a copy of your record of achievement. Any student can request a copy of their record of achievement. |
Can I request a copy at any other time? |
If you need a record of achievement at any other time, you can request a copy from NZQA. You must to fill out this form [link to application form] and send it to: Secondary Operations and Development |
I need my record of achievement before April, what can I do? |
NZQA can provide you with a copy of your record of achievement before April, but there are some limitations to this process. Any record of achievement that is sent to you before April will not have your confirmed qualifications on it. This means it will not list if you have achieved NCEA levels 1, 2 or 3. The reason for this is that your results cannot be confirmed until after the reconsideration period is finished. The record of achievement will have all your external and internal results on it, but only if your school has confirmed your internal results and only if you have paid all your assessment fees. If either of these things has not happened, you will have an incomplete record of achievement. You can view a sample copy of a record of achievement here. |
Can I view my record of achievement on the Internet? |
| At any time you can login to the NZQA website and print a copy of your record of achievement or results notice. This means you can gain a fresh copy of your current results before applying for a new job or enrolling in a new programme. Please note however that the document on the website will not be an official transcript. Also, the full online service will only be available if you have paid your assessment fees. |
What if my address has changed? |
| It is your responsibility to make sure NZQA has your correct mailing address. If your address changes, you must fill in this form (Word or PDF) and post or fax it to NZQA. |
How can I pay my assessment fees? |
| If you have not paid all your assessment fees by the end of the school year, NZQA will not release your record of achievement. To pay these fees, you must send a letter that states what you are paying for, your full name, the school you attended, your NSN and a cheque for the full amount, including the $50 late fee, to: Secondary Operations and Development Please remember to sign the letter. If you do not live in New Zealand anymore, then you must pay by bank draft. |
