More than 150 registered providers identify themselves as Māori. Typically these providers deliver Māori subjects, conduct their courses in a Māori environment or focus specifically on the needs of Māori learners.
NZQA statistics show that Māori providers are playing a critical role in lifting the achievement, retention and participation levels of Māori learners.
NZQA provides free 'one-on-one' support to all registered Māori providers and wānanga who want to participate in the programme.
Carl Ross, Group Manager, Māori Provider Development and Support, has a team of seven regional facilitators based throughout Aotearoa who work with Māori providers on building their capacity. This includes assistance with programme development, quality management systems and communications with NZQA's central office in Wellington.
The Māori Provider Development and Support team produces a regular on-line newsletter called Rongopai that profiles successful Māori private training establishments, highlights major changes for Māori providers and provides a regular update from the regional facilitators.
For more information on the team, view Rongopai on the NZQA website or contact the regional facilitator in your area
