Subfields and unit standards

There are currently 16 subfields and 565 unit standards registered in the Māori field.

Under development and review

New unit standards under development include New Māori Dance, Reo Māori Media, and New Māori Music.

There are also unit standards being developed and reviewed in Māori Tourism, Māori Geography, Hauora, Whakairo, Mana Wahine, Te Mātauranga me te Whakangungu and Tikanga.

*Note: General Education Māori gives a Māori dimension to core curriculum subjects and corresponds to the seven essential learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework. This includes Nga Mahi Toi, Tikanga a-iwi, Hangarau, Putaiao, Oranga, Pangarau, Kōrero me nga reo and Māori geography.

Qualifications

There are currently nine National Certificates and six National Diplomas available in field Māori . Note that the Māori Business and Management qualifications now sit under field Māori .

Under development and review

New qualifications under development are a National Certificate in Māori Tourism, Tikanga, Reo Māori Media and Māori (level 4). The National Certificate in Māori (level 4) will build on the National Certificate in Māori -Te Waharoa (level 2). The level 4 qualification recognises Māori skills and knowledge as well as steering learners towards a specific area of employment.

There is also a National Diploma under development in Reo Māori Media and Māori Performing Arts.
