There are currently 16 subfields and more than 550 unit standards registered in the Māori field.

Some subfields like General Education include a range of different subjects. General Education includes Pangarau, Oranga, K?rero me ngā Reo, P taiao and Tikanga ā-iwi unit standards.

Unit Standards

Unit standards in New Māori Dance and New Māori Music are now registered on the National Qualifications Framework. You will find them in the Māori Performing Arts subfield. More information about these new unit standards is available in this story here.

A review of the 21 Hauora unit standards (levels 2-6) has resulted in the registration of seven new unit standards that cover areas like referral systems and conflict resolution.

There are also unit standards being developed and reviewed in Māori Geography, Seafood, Whakairo, Mana Wahine, Te Mātauranga me te Whakangungu and Tikanga.

Qualifications

National Certificates in field Māori under development are:

  • National Certificate in Māori Tourism (level 3)
  • National Certificate in Tikanga (level 4)
  • National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (level 4)
  • National Certificate in Māori- Te Ngutu Awa (level 4)
  • National Certificate in Māori Environmental Management (level 4)

The National Certificate in Reo Māori Media and Te Ngutu Awa are expected to be registered shortly.

Te Ngutu Awa is the new Māori name given to the level 4 National Certificate that follows on from Te Waharoa. Once Te Ngutu Awa has been registered, Te Huarahi will feature a story on its name.

National Diplomas in field Māori under development are:

  • National Diploma in Reo Māori Media (level 6)
  • National Diploma in Māori Performing Arts (level 5)
  • National Diploma in Māori Environmental Management (level 5)

As part of the review of the Hauora standards, both the National Certificate and National Diploma in Māori Community Health will be reviewed in the next three months.

Here are the existing nine National Certificates and six National Diplomas available in field Māori. Note that the Māori Business and Management qualifications now sit under field Māori.

Assessment resources

Assessment resources are available in field Māori. All resources are available at no cost to accredited providers.

New assessment resources under development include a web-based resource and a video for New Māori Dance. These will be available in March 2003.

Other assessment resources under development include a web-based resource for New Māori Music and resources for providers of Māori Business and Management.
