Te Marau Māori

There are currently 16 subfields 'housed' in field Māori and more than 550 unit standards registered in field Māori on the National Qualifications Framework

Some subfields like General Education include a range of different subjects. General Education includes Pangarau, Oranga, K?rero me ngā Reo, P taiao and Tikanga ā-iwi unit standards.

You will also find New Māori Dance and New Māori Music domains registered under the Māori Performing Arts subfield.

Unit Standards under development and review

Māori Geography and Adult Education and Training unit standards are under development.

There are unit standards under review in Māori Business and Management, Tourism and Mana Wahine.

The Tikanga review has been completed.

Qualifications under development and review

Māori Environmental Management and Seafood Māori are under development.

Te Ngutu Awa - the National Certificate in Māori (level 4) has been registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Te Ngutu Awa is the second general field Māori qualification on the NQF. Te Waharoa - the National Certificate in Māori (level 2) has proved to be very popular with secondary and tertiary providers.

The National Certificate in Māori Tourism (level 3) and the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (level 4) are undergoing technical evaluation and should be registered in the next two months.

Other National Certificates in field Māori under development are:

  • National Certificate in Tikanga (level 4)
  • National Certificate in Māori Environmental Management (level 4)

National Diplomas in field Māori under development are:

  • National Diploma in Reo Māori Media (level 6)
  • National Diploma in Māori Performing Arts (level 5)
  • National Diploma in Māori Environmental Management (level 5)

Both the National Certificate and National Diploma in Māori Community Health-Hauora are being reviewed.

Assessment resources

Assessment resources are available in field Māori. All resources are available at no cost to accredited providers.

New assessment resources under development include a web-based resource and a video for New Māori Dance.

Other assessment resources under development include a web-based resource for New Māori Music and resources for providers of Māori Business and Management.
