Kai Tech Ltd - Te Akomanga no nga hua a Tangaroa

Regional Facilitator Leigh Milmine came up with this seven-point plan to help providers apply for an extension to their accreditation.

To help illustrate this process, NZQA has talked to Kai Tech-Te Akomanga no nga hua a Tangaroa, a Māori provider in Southland who have successfully applied for an extension to their accreditation.

1 Identify the qualification, field, subfield, domain or unit standards you want to be accredited to provide. Case Study...
2 Contact your Case Manager to notify them that you will be applying to extend your PTE's accreditation. Case Study...
3 Check to see if an Industry Training Organisation (ITO) or the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) needed to be involved in your application. In most cases, a visit from either an ITO or a standards setting body is only required for standards at levels 3 and above.

An ITO may want to be involved in the application process or they may choose to be involved after the application has been forwarded to NZQA. Case Study...
4 Check the Accreditation Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for the area you are applying for. The AMAP sets out specific requirements for accreditation and details of external moderation requirements. AMAPs are available on the NZQA web site. Case Study...
5 Wherever possible, use your quality management system (QMS) to cross-reference the requirements listed in the AMAP. You will need to ensure your QMS clearly addresses the requirements of the AMAP. Case Study...
6 Some AMAPs may require additional information that has not been covered in your QMS, such as the qualifications of your staff. You will also need to check with your Case Manager to see if you need to send examples of assessment tasks, schedules and a programme plan. 7 Forward your application to your Case Manager at NZQA. Your Case Manager will decide whether or not to extend your accreditation based on the information you have provided in the application. Case Study...
