Kai Tech Ltd - Te Akomanga no nga hua a Tangaroa
STEP Involving the standards setting bodies
Kai Tech wished to extend its accreditation so it could assess in nine additional domains. Four in Reo Māori (levels 1-2) and five in Core Generics (levels 1-2). Neither of these subject areas were developed by an ITO.
Both standards setting groups for Core Generics and Reo Māori are advisory groups to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and there are business units that can help you.
- The Māori Qualifications Service (MQS) develop, maintain and promote all field Māori unit standards including Reo Māori.
- The National Qualifications Service (NQS) develop, maintain and promote about a third of the unit standards available including Core Generics.
If you want to know more about standards setting bodies click on About Framework - Standard setters.
For this application, there was no requirement for a standards setting body to be involved during the actual application process. No site visit was required because Kai Tech was only applying to extend their accreditation for levels 1-2. However Director Michelle Trow did chose to seek advice from MQS on developing a Reo Māori assessment schedule and programme. Michelle says 'They helped us complete our application.'
