Nga mihi ki a koutou katoa... tena koutou, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa.
As we near the end of a cold and frosty winter and welcome the crisp, sweet air of spring...I take a moment to remember our loved ones, who have passed on. There is something intriguing about the way life goes on, the way time mends a lonely heart, the way new life brings so much joy and happiness, the way we cherish our children, our families, the way we miss...the ones we love. In memory of my late sister - Jade Kerry Tupou, who passed away 16 years ago. Ka nui ta mātou aroha ki a koe. Ma te Atua koe, hei manaaki, hei tiaki hoki. Moe mai, moe mai, moe mai ra...e te tuahine.

The results of a needs analysis, which was undertaken during February and March this year, revealed that Bay of Plenty providers want to focus on development and support in the areas of Moderation, Self-Evaluation Processes, Quality Management Systems and Alignment with Government Strategies.
A number of workshops are being planned to meet these needs and recently providers were invited to attend Moderation workshops held in Rotorua and Whakatane. The feedback from providers was encouraging and useful. Many providers have established new networks, as a result of the Moderation workshops, in order to monitor and improve moderation systems in their own organisations. This is one example of the benefits we gain from working collectively.
In the near future, BOP providers can expect to receive more information about up and coming workshops and in particular look forward to the cluster hui, planned for April 2006. This hui will allow providers to engage with staff from AAA, TAM, PDS, MQS, and NQS to name a few. The details for impending cluster hui will be confirmed closer to the date.
In closing, I would like to acknowledge management and staff of Arahia Qualitech Ltd, in Rotorua. In spite of its recent closure, Arahia has contributed significantly to the community, creating employment opportunities and further training opportunities for all its students (both past and present).

E ngā iwi, e ngā karangatanga te iti me te rahi, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou.
It has been a very busy time since the last edition of Rongopai. Increased compliance and accountability measures have impacted heavily on the operations of many providers I support. This has emphasised the need to keep pace with the changes that are constantly occurring within the Tertiary Sector. I highly recommend spending a couple of hours each month checking out the NZQA, TEC, MOE and related websites for reviews, updates etc. In particular keep an eye on the AAA page on the NZQA website. Current versions of the standards, forms and approval processes for registration and accreditation can be downloaded from here.
The highlight for me so far this year has been the Cluster hui held in Kerikeri and Tamaki Makaurau. Jointly co-ordinated by Provider Development and Support and Tertiary Assessment and Moderation these hui provided a valuable opportunity for providers to network with each other and NZQA staff - kanohi ki te kanohi. Two days very well spent.

Kia Ora!
I hope everyone is well, the year is going so quickly, we`re coming into the home straights as Christmas looms on the horizon. This year has been extremely busy for Providers, all beavering away with a myriad of tasks to complete like audit, profiles, hui, TEC compliances, some winning awards, expanding or moving into new industries. Most Providers in Tamaki Makaurau are either on a three year or two year cycle, which is fantastic!!!!! Keep up the great work!

Tēnā koutou katoa,
I am indeed privileged to be able to work alongside the Māori PTE groups in Te Tai Hauauru. My passion is to assist providers with the development of systems, resources, processes and people that will ensure we comply with QA Standard One, and then move onto delivering excellent programmes.
During 2005 I have been challenged to understand Moderation systems and practices. Having focussed on the unit standards that are part of the National Certificate in Employment Skills, I have identified a number of areas that can be improved. Assisting and supporting providers to implement good internal moderation systems as well as getting external moderation compliance has resulted in a very challenging year.
There will be even more to do in 2006 as we endeavour to implement the Tertiary Education Strategy.
Kia Kaha. Arohanui, Raewyn.

Kia ora koutou
This year my region has changed slightly to pick up a provider in Wellington, (Upper Hutt) Te Rongopai Morehu Trust. A big warm welcome to Bev, Ana, Rod, and the team at Te Waipounamu whanau.
Unfortunately, another of our Providers Ngā Hau e Wha National Marae decided that they would wind up their training programmes after a notice from TEC that they would not be funding them in 2006. Michelle and her team had worked hard towards their next audit that unfortunately did not end up going ahead.
Other news in our rohe is that 3 providers are looking at becoming registered and accredited with NZQA. Ngati Koata in Nelson after a 4-year absence. Working With Wool in CHCH and the Marlborough Academy in Blenheim.
I can also report that Mike Mikare and Kaylene Birhead are fit and well in Dunedin. Absolutely loving being motel owners in comparison to the many years spent in our Industry.
Look forward to catching up with you all in my travels.
Kia kaha
Arohanui
