The diagram below gives an overview of the process you should follow for a new course, from development to approval.


Applications may be made at any time during the year. Your planning needs to include sufficient time for NZQA to process, analyse and approve your application. You will also need to allow time for your own promotional work, resourcing, and enrolments.

While NZQA aims to have a course approval application completed within three months (one month for Preferential Track applications), the time will very much depend on the quality of an application and how responsive providers are to requests for clarification or for further information. Delays may be experienced if an application lacks the necessary information or requires extensive rework.
