What is the NQF accreditation process?
This section answers these questions:
|
Some applicants are already registered as private training establishments (PTEs) when they apply for NQF accreditation. Others apply for accreditation simultaneously with their application for registration and course approval and accreditation.
If NQF accreditation is sought at the same time as PTE registration or course approval and accreditation, the NQF application must be submitted as a separate application. NZQA will endeavour to process concurrent applications at the same time. However, registration must be approved before finalising any other application approvals.
What happens once NZQA receives my application?
Timelines
![]() |
NZQA sets a timeline of four months to complete the accreditation process. The NQF Accreditation Application Form should be completed and sent to NZQA with the required supporting documents.
The application will be reviewed on receipt. If key documents are missing or incomplete the applicant will be advised and invited to re-submit information within an agreed timeframe. Timeframes for submitting additional information will be agreed with the applicant. If the information is not received within a reasonable timeframe, NZQA can close the application and all documents will be returned.
Evaluation of application
Once the application is accepted, it will be assigned to a quality auditor. The auditor will conduct an in-depth analysis of the documents to determine whether the requirements of QA Standard One and the AMAP are met.
Site visit
![]() |
The purpose of a site visit is to confirm that the premises and resources meet the requirements of QA Standard One and industry-specific requirements. Generally, applications for accreditation up to level 3 on the NQF do not require site visits.
During the planning stage the applicant will have made contact with the relevant standard-setting body and confirmed the level of industry input. If a site visit is required it is preferable that applicant and the industry training organisation arrange the visit as part of the gathering of evidence for the application. Once satisfied that all industry requirements are met, the ITO will write a letter of support confirming that an industry visit has occurred and that it supports the application.
Outcome
Once all requirements are met, NZQA grants accreditation and updates the provider’s accreditation details on the NZQA website.
