Do I have to pay the annual fee?
The following organisations must pay the annual fee:
- private training establishments (PTEs) registered with NZQA on 1 January each year
- government training establishments (GTEs)
- wānanga
- Unitec New Zealand
- recognised course owners
The following organisations do not pay the annual fee:
- industry training organisations
- Adult and Community Education (ACE) providers who solely deliver ACE programmes
How much do I pay?The annual fee for each provider is $775 plus $10 per FTE student plus GST. |
Government-funded providers
If you receive any form of government funding you do not have to calculate your fee. We will use data from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and any other available information to calculate your full-time equivalent (FTE) student numbers. The FTE number will show on the invoice you receive.
Non-funded providers
If you do not receive any form of government funding you are required to submit the Annual Fee Return Form (AF01) and calculate your FTE student numbers on the worksheets available on this site. The Annual Fee Return Form and worksheets are due no later than 28 February each year.
Key dates
- 28 February - complete Annual Fee Return Form and submit to the Quality Assurance Division of NZQA
- March - annual fee invoices will be sent to providers
When do I have to pay the fee by?
You will receive the fee invoice in March each year. Normal payment terms apply. Please do not send payment before you get the invoice.
