The SRS is a new document designed for school leavers that records your results in secondary school for both internally and externally assessed standards. The notice also shows any national qualifications, University Entrance and Scholarship achievements and a summary of the credits you have achieved by subject and by level.
This notice will be useful to you in gaining entrance to future tertiary study and will also provide potential employers with a profile of your achievements. How is the SRS different from the Record of Achievement?
You may be familiar with the existing Record of Achievement (ROA). The ROA lists all standards achieved, grouped by National Qualifications Framework subfields and listed in reverse chronological order within each subfield. It also lists national qualifications, University Entrance and Scholarship. The ROA is intended to be a life-long record of your achievement and will grow as you gain new standards through tertiary study and industry training.
The SRS differs to the ROA in several key respects:
- The SRS lists both "achieved" and "not achieved" results whereas the ROA only shows "achieved" results.
- The SRS provides a total of credits achieved by subject and by level, whereas the ROA groups standards using the National Qualifications Framework subfields.
- The SRS only lists your achievements in senior secondary school and is not updated after you leave school.
- The SRS is grouped by school subjects and by calendar year.
How do you receive a copy of your SRS?
In 2009, all 2008 Year 13 students will receive a copy of their SRS. Any other student can request one free copy of their SRS upon leaving school.
To request your SRS, you can either download the application form or call the NZQA Call Centre on 04 463-3000.
Students who are not entitled to a free copy of the SRS, or students requesting an additional or replacement copy of the SRS, will be required to pay $15.00 per copy as stated on the application form.
The ROA will continue to be available on request to all eligible candidates via the NZQA website or the NZQA Call Centre.
You can also access your results through the website using your NSN (National Student Number) and password. This means you can gain a fresh copy of your current results before applying for a new job or enrolling in a new programme. However, you will not initially be able to view a personalised copy of your SRS as you can presently do with the Record of Achievement. This option is likely to be available in future years.
Provider access to SRS
Providers will not initially have access to learners' SRS through secure log in. This option is likely to be available in future years.
Will the SRS be accepted nationally and internationally?
Yes. The NQF is fully endorsed and supported by New Zealand's education and training providers, employers, unions and national industry and professional groups. It is the New Zealand Government's national qualification system.
It is also internationally compatible with systems being established in the United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, Australia and North America.
