Database Update

This month sees the launch of the first phase of a database project designed to replace Framework Registration's 1990s databases. The new database 'QUAL' will more effectively support business practices and assist with the management of the NQF. From April 2006, the new database is being used to process and manage NQF standards.

QUAL will enable us to:

  • Access data more easily
  • Provide enhanced management of applications for registration
  • Remove the misleading 'expiry date' from the unit standard document
  • Enter the actual expiry date - the last date for assessment for expiring and expired standards - information that was previously only available in review reports.

Data extracts

Data extracts from QUAL can be loaded into Excel, and spreadsheets emailed to SSBs so that they can manipulate the raw data.

SSBs are invited to request data extracts so that they can see at first hand what data is available.

An extract is currently available that lists:

  • Field
  • Subfield
  • Domain
  • Standard Type (unit, achievement, or Australian-based)
  • Standard Number
  • Current Version
  • Title
  • Level
  • Credits
  • Status
  • Status Date
  • Review Date (Planned review date – applies only to registered standards)
  • Expiry Date (Actual expiry date – applies only to expiring or expired standards)
  • Last Publication Date
  • SSB Number
  • SSB Name
  • Content Indicator (Maori content – used to generate hook symbol on NQF website)
  • Grading Scheme (grades that are able to be reported, for most unit standards, this is ‘Credit’)
  • Assessment Type (relates only to achievement standards)
  • AMAP Number
  • Application Number of Subsequent Draft (if a subsequent draft is in a new application)

Revised Unit Standard template

Unit standards are being transferred to a new template in the registration process. This template will be further developed for SSB use in future.

At this stage SSBs should continue to use the existing template in preparing applications for registration.
