Macrons

NZQA supports the use of macrons in Māori language, and uses macrons in all Māori text in its internal and external print documents.

Until recently the ability to display macrons on websites has been limited by the technology and a lack of standardisation. It could not be guaranteed that Māori words would appear correctly on all browser platforms.

NZQA is now using macrons on its redeveloped website. Due to limited implementation of unicode fonts on the Macintosh, macrons cannot presently be implemented for Macintosh users.

NZQA's aim is to add macrons incrementally to all web pages and then to Word documents.
