Te Rautaki Māori 2012-2017 Public Consultation
Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā, kīhai i māwhitiwhiti, kīhai i mārangaranga, te ūpoko nui o te ruru te terekou mai nei, he pō, he pō, he ao, he ao, ka awatea.
Kei ngā mana, kei ngā reo puta noa i te motu tēnā koutou katoa.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is seeking feedback on the refreshed Te Rautaki Māori a te Mana Tohu Mātauranga o Aotearoa for 2012-2017. This will be NZQA's second official Māori strategy. Importantly, Te Rautaki Māori 2012-2017 outlines NZQA's commitment to the Government education sector goal of Māori achieving education success as Māori.
Background
Since July 2011, NZQA has been engaging with Māori and iwi to refresh its Māori strategy for 2012–2017. The strategy builds on the achievements of the current Te Rautaki Māori 2007-2012.
The key achievements of the current strategy have included:
-
completion of Te Hono o te Kahurangi, an authentic Māori world approach to evaluative quality assurance of mātauranga Māori qualifications and programmes
-
implementation of the 'NCEA and the Whānau' information programme, helping whānau to understand NCEA, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Careers New Zealand
-
launched the NZQA People Plan, 'He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata' and the Māori relationships tool-kit, a values-based framework for engaging with Māori and building capability.
Purpose of the Strategy
The strategic framework set out in the draft Te Rautaki Māori 2012-2017 articulates goals and implementation pathways identified through a series of engagements with iwi and Māori educationalists in 2011. The two key goals are:
1. Accelerated Māori learner success; and
2. Advanced use of mātauranga Māori
These two goals are distinct in their own right, yet mutually reinforcing of each other.
Te manu ka kai i te miro, nōna te ngāhere.
Te manu ka kai i te mātauranga, nōna te ao.
Feedback
By working together we all have an opportunity to make a real difference for Māori learners. Māori – whānau, hapū and iwi have very high aspirations for education achievement and excellence. Your input into the strategy and how your organisation can contribute to its goals and outcomes is valued.
Your feedback on the draft strategy is important to us. We encourage you to discuss it with others in your whānau, hapū and iwi, your organisation and your sector. Please use the feedback form to provide your comments, save and return to terautaki@nzqa.govt.nz or post to NZQA Office of the Deputy Chief Executive Māori , PO Box 160, Wellington 6140, by 9 March 2012.
