Still not finding what you want?

Why doesn't my keyword search work?

There are a number of possible reasons:

  • you may have mis-typed the subject name (e.g. chemstry instead of chemistry)
  • you used a word we don't recognise
  • the subject name is actually something different

Common keyword mistakes:

Wrong Keyword Correct Keyword(s)
art visual art
history of art art history
home ec home and life science
kapa haka maori performance
maths math or mathematics
te reo maori (or) te reo rangatira reo maori (or) reo rangatira

What does "No files available" mean - is there a problem with the site?

No. This means that this is either a new standard so there are no assessment-related documents available yet or that are no documents currently available from this website.

How do I find last year's exam papers?

In the search box:

  • enter the standard number (e.g. 90053) and click on search,
  • or enter the keyword, then from the dropdown menus - choose the level and type of document ie Assessment materials.  Then click on search.

The Exam paper will be one of the documents listed.

Why can't I find the answers for the exam papers?

Your search needs to be for "Reports and schedules". The 'answers' are in the Assessment Schedules.

Why can't I find external exam papers for some standards?

When Achievement Standards have been reviewed they may be 'expired'. They are then removed from the NZQA website. However, the examination papers and reports for these standard are still available.

What does the message "See Te Kete Ipurangi website" mean?

Assessment (or teaching) resources for use with the internally assessed achievement standards are on the Ministry of Education's Te Kete Ipurangi (TKI) website. Links are provided from internally assessed standards to TKI. See also Internal assessment for links to assessment materials related to unit standards.

How do I find the maths graphics calculators or formulae resources?

Search for math and "assessment materials". Graphics calculator resource explains what you need to show when answering maths and statistics and modelling achievement standards in the external exams.

Search for math, level 2 or 3 and "assessment materials" to find the Formulae resources for this year's standards.

There is a list of calculators permitted in the exams.

Are there exam resources for Graphics, Technology or Visual Arts?

No. These subjects are 'moderated' not 'examined'. However, NZQA does provide some resources. On the left side navigation bar, click on Search Standards & Assessment, then Graphics, Technology & Visual Art or search for assessment materials (only available for external assessment material) using the search.

How do I find the achievement standards translated into the Māori language?

Find the standard you want as explained above. The Te Reo Māori version will be listed.

Why do you use PDF, Word and Zip files - and how am I expected to open them?

MS Word is the format in which our staff work and produce their original documents. These are provided to make it easier for you to copy those elements you wish to use in your own materials.

PDF documents are used because they retain the style of the original document (for example, page numbering, footnotes, presentation of graphics etc) and are often preferable for downloading or printing from the website. They are also often smaller files than MS Word files.

Files are also available in a ZIP format to enable groups of files to be downloaded rather than downloading files individually. These groups also are often 'compressed' by the ZIP format, and so are smaller than all the individual files together.

You will need the appropriate software to view these documents and you can download the latest versions here.

Why don't New Zealand Scholarship standards come up when I search for level 4?

Scholarship is an independent award. It is not part of the National Qualifications Framework or NCEA. All Scholarship-related material is in a separate area of this site.
