Internal assessment
Students are assessed for NCEA by a combination of external and internal assessments.
There are
internal assessments for things that can't be tested in exams, for
example, speeches, research projects and performances. To find assessment resources that have been developed by the Ministry of Education for use with the internally assessed achievement standards on their Te Kete Ipurangi (TKI) website.
All internal assessment carried out by schools for the NCEA involves an external check known as moderation. NZQA works with schools to make this happen.
There are external examinations for some Achievement Standards. More than half the assessment for regular school subjects is by exam.
