How do we apply for an extension of our accreditation?

It is important that you contact NZQA's School Relationship Manager - Accreditation to discuss the detail of your application.

Click a 'step' in the diagram below for further explanation of how to complete that step.

Consult your teachers to determine the scope of the extension to accreditation

Consult with all departments in your school to determine the scope of the extension to accreditation that is required. Check what accreditations the school already holds and decide which additional standards, domains or sub-fields to apply for.

NZQA recommends schools apply for domain or subfield accreditation, although some Industry Training Organisations ( ITO) may only accept applications for individual standards up to level 2.

Download the relevant Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

You will be applying to this ITO / Standard Setting Body (SSB) for use of their standards.

Attestation for meeting
Industry or Sector-
specific requirements

Read the AMAP carefully to identify any particular requirements you will need to meet.

You must be able to assure the ITO/SSB that you comply with all the listed requirements.

Contact your school's SRM for the extension to accreditation pack

Your School Relationship Manager will send you an extension of accreditation application pack with templates of letters to send to the relevant SSB/ITO and NZQA.

Use the template to help you make your application to the ITO/SSB for a letter of support

use of their standards

Contact the SSB to obtain their support for your application. In many cases this will be an ITO. They may provide you with a template or guide to assist you in making your application.

If NZQA is the SSB please make contact with your School Relationship Manager (SRM).

NZQA will not consider any application that does not include the required SSB support in writing.

Submit your letter of support and application for extension to your School's SRM
