Guidelines For Presenting Work For Moderation Of Technology Achievement Standards 1.6, 2.7 and 3.7
When forwarding assessment material for moderation against the skill standards, assessors (teachers) need to show moderators how they (the teachers) have reached their judgements.
The minimum requirement for moderation is forwarding of a task, assessment schedule and eight randomly selected samples of assessed student work. In most cases additional information will also be required to assist moderators to fully understand assessor judgement/s.
Teachers could also submit up to four samples for which specific questions are asked of the moderator. These should not merely be more samples for moderation.
The following is a list of strategies assessors (teachers) could use to explain assessment judgements:
- Ensure that the intent or purpose of the brief is clearly stated and explained in the task.
- Contextualise the assessment schedule to suit the stated brief - this could be in the form of adding one or more of the following to the generic schedule:
- exemplars of student answers/work
- checklists to show what assessors were looking for when they made their judgement/s (particularly with respect to the quality of the solution)
- explanations of how the assessor determined whether the outcome was a technological solution
- explanations of how the assessor determined whether the student evaluated if their solution was fit for the purpose intended in the brief
- Explain assessor judgements using additional materials including:
- supporting photographs or digital images
- added assessor notes to the student work ('Post it' notes or a duplicate copy of teacher - student feedback sheets would be ideal for this)
- added notes to the individual student(s) assessment schedule(s)
- diary or running record of any formative assessment completed by the assessor during the course of the project (if it is related to the final judgement).
