Scholarship Results available from today

18 February, 2008

The wait is nearly over for more than 8000 students who entered 2007 Scholarship examinations, with results available online from today (Monday 18).

Candidates can access their results via a secure login page on the NZQA website. Scholarship results notices have also been mailed to candidates and will be delivered over the next few days.

Scholarship examinations are a monetary award designed to recognise the top secondary schools students. Scholarships are awarded to about three percent of year 13 students studying a subject at level three, provided that they have met the standard.

A total of 1951 candidates will receive Scholarship awards totalling around $2.7 million over the next three years (provided recipients maintain a B average in their tertiary study).

The Scholarship examination process is evaluated by a group of independent experts on the Technical Overview Group Assessment Committee.

The group chair, Professor Gary Hawke, former Head of School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington, said the Scholarship process for 2007 had worked well and the results were pleasing.

"The information provided by NZQA is robust and well researched. The technical overview group has full confidence in Scholarship as a high quality examination that successfully identifies New Zealand 's top scholars," he said.
