Revision of Teaching qualification
National Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education, Pasifika) (Level 7) [Ref: 0983]
The National
Qualifications Services (NQS) of NZQA has revised the qualification listed
above that
was registered in December 2002.
Date new version published June 2007
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2008.
Reason for the revision
The review of the Pacific Islands Early Childhood Education unit
standards in 2005 resulted in the development and
registration of a new domain: Pacific Island Early Childhood Education: Cultural Support.
While Mmany of the new unit standards have their
origins in some of the reviewed standards, however they are not
considered replacements. This has resulted in all reviewed standards being
designated as Category D However, iIt was agreed the reviewed unit standards would not expire for 5
years as an earlier date could adversely impact on the existing candidates for
the National Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education, Pasifika)
(Level 7) [Ref: 0983].
However, as Tthe unit standards in new domain Pacific Island Early
Childhood Education: Cultural Support are more generic in nature,
and it was agreed that these unit
standards should be available for all candidates wishing to gain the
National Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education,
Pasifika) (Level 7). The reason for this revision is to include the new
domain with its accompanying unit standards in Elective One and to revise the
rule relating to the elective. This will enable candidates to choose unit
standards from any domain.
It was also brought to NZQA's attention that the subtotals on page 2 for the in the Credit Range table
had not been
changed at the last revision to account for changes in credits to unit standards
9301, 9302 and 10025. Adjustmentsrequired correction. have been made to the totals in the
column for the compulsory section.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Elective 1 was amended so candidates can now choose a minimum of 10 credits
and a maximum of 23 credits at level 4 or above from
any of the specified domains, including the new domainPacific Island Early Childhood Education:
Cultural Support.The qualification
listed above has been revised to take account of the
following:
·
Adjustment to the incorrect totals
listed in the compulsory column of the Credit Range table on page 2. Level
3 subtotal should be 9, not 8; and Level 5 subtotal should be 97, not 100.
The final total credits for the compulsory section remains as
before.
·
Addition of new domain in Elective
One
·
Change to the rule relating to elective one to include
credits from any of the specified domains.
