Revision of Telecommunications qualifications

 

National Certificate in Telecommunications (Level 3) with strands in Bearer and Switch, Building and Data Cabling, Customer Access Network, Customer Premises Equipment, Information and Communications Technology, and Radio [Ref: 0767]

 

The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) has revised the qualification listed above.

 

Date new versions published                                                          December 2008

 

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.

 

Reason for the revision

 

The revision was prompted by the industry's need for people to be trained to carryout rigging activities on telecommunications structures, and was conducted by ETITO in conjunction with TESSO and the telecommunications industry.

 

As a result, four new standards covering rigging telecommunications structures were developed and included in a new strand, along with standard 23229, Use a safety harness for fall prevention when rigging or scaffolding at height.  Also the credit value of revised standard 17494 was updated in the qualification, and standard 1277 was included in the Core Compulsory section.

Changes to structure and content

·      Standard 17494 credit value was increased from 20 to 23 as a result of a revision.

·      Standard 1277 was added to the Core Compulsory section.

·      Rigging strand was included and the title of the qualification was amended accordingly.

·      Standards 25266, 25267, 25268, 25318, and 23229 were included in the Rigging strand.

·      Credit value of qualification has changed to 79-104 credits.

 

Transition

 

For the purposes of version 3 and 4 of the qualification, people who have gained credit for the following expiring standard will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the alternative standard.

Trainees may either complete the requirements of version 3 of the qualification or transfer to version 4.

 

All new trainees will be enrolled in programmes leading to version 4 of the qualification.

 

It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this review, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition.  However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) at the address below.
