Summary of review and consultation process

 

The review of these unit standards resulted from the industry drive, initiated in 2006, to update the National Diploma in Compliance and Regulatory Control with strands in Building Inspection, and Plumbing and Drainlaying Inspection, and an optional strand in Specialist Inspection [Ref: 0421], registered in March 2003.

 

A Sector Expert Panel was convened and a new qualification package including component unit standards was drafted.  The draft package was posted on the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand (BOINZ) website and introduced to the sector at seven regional workshops.  Following the consultation phase the package was endorsed by both the Sector Expert Panel and the Sector Steering Group.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·         Unit 7226, Review building consents for buildings to be used as residential dwellings, was replaced by Unit 24176, Assess building consent applications for small buildings.

·         Unit 7227, Complete routine inspections for buildings to be used as residential dwellings was replaced by Unit 24175, Complete building inspections for small buildings.

·         Unit 22698, Demonstrate knowledge of building control legislation and requirements was updated to reflect changes in regulations and legislation.

·         Unit 22699, Demonstrate knowledge of the process of approving routine building consents and Unit 22700, Demonstrate knowledge of the process of carrying out routine building inspections were replaced by Unit 24177, Demonstrate knowledge of the processes for approving documentation and completing inspections for small buildings.

 

Unit standards categorised as category C will expire at the end of December 2013.
