Revision of Farming Skills qualification
National Certificate in Farming Skills (Farm Safety) (Level 2) [Ref: 0963]
The Agriculture Industry Training Organisation has revised the qualification listed above.
Date new versions published January 2008
The qualification review is planned to take place during 2008.
Reason for the revision
The revision was carried out to make the qualification achievable as it had not been updated when standards 5059 and 5060 in the Pest Control domain were reviewed. The standards expired in December 2006, and candidates were no longer able to complete the qualification's requirements. The opportunity was taken to also: include standards developed specifically to meet the requirements for New Zealand Standard NZS 8409:2004, Management of agrichemicals; replace expired standards in the General Agriculture domain; and update the credit requirements for standard 497.
Main changes resulting from the revision
Changes to structure and content
· expired standards 5059 and 5060 were removed from the qualification
· standards 21563 and 21564 were added to cover the use of agrichemicals
· expiring standards 14489, 14490 and 14491 were replaced by 23540, 23541 and 23542
· standard 497 increased in credit from 1 to 3
· total credits for the qualification increased from 51-54 to 62-65.
Transition
Training programmes for version 2 of the qualification may start as soon as the qualification is registered.
All existing candidates may either complete the requirements for version 1 or transfer to version 2.
The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 of the qualification is December 2008.
