Summary of review and consultation process

The Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications were revised in 1999 and 2002, Level 4 was reviewed in 1999 and following on from that the review of the complete suite of qualifications began in 2006 in conjunction with a review of standards in several domains in the Food and Related Product Processing subfield.  Consultation and discussion with the Food and Beverage industry highlighted the need for significant improvements in a number of areas:

·         improved focus on the target industries and job roles

·         incorporation of competitive manufacturing standards

·         flexibility in the use of basic employment and communication skills

·         removal of overlap with other qualifications and between the reviewed qualifications

·         refinement of structure and credit requirements

·         expiry of the qualification at Level 1.

In their reviewed form, with the exception of the Level 1 qualification, these certificates continue to represent current skills and knowledge required by the industry.

The review was endorsed by the Food and Beverage Advisory Group on 4 November 2008.
