Review of Furniture Making qualification

The Forest Industries Training and Education Council has completed the review of the above qualification.
Date new version published July 2010
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.
Summary of review and consultation process
This qualification was reviewed in response to feedback from workplace assessors and the Furniture Sector Operating Committee. Changes were approved by the Sector Operating Committee.
Main changes resulting from the review
The structure of the core of the qualification has been changed in response to feedback from the Furniture Sector Operating Committee that standard 21502 was difficult for trainees to achieve in some worksites. The Free Standing Furniture strand has been renamed as it was no longer suitable following the removal of the Interior Fitment strand.

Changes to structure and content
· Core Compulsory set was replaced by Core Elective 1, standards 21332 and 21333 were added, and credits were reduced from 11 to 10 credits.
· Core Elective set was renamed Core Elective 2 and the credits increased from 8 to 9.
· The Free Standing Furniture strand was renamed Furniture Making.
· Details of standard 10851 updated to reflect review.
Transition
Candidates enrolled in version 2 of this qualification can choose to complete that version or transfer their existing achievements to version 3. Candidates have until December 2013 to complete version 2 of the qualification. All new candidates will be enrolled into version 3 of the qualification.
