Review of Electricity Supply qualification

National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer - Specialist) (Level 5) [Ref: 1108]

The Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation (ESITO) has completed the review of the qualification above.

Date new version published                                                             September 2010

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2014.

Summary of review and consultation process

The review was carried out as part of a periodic review cycle.  Given its specialist nature, the industry consultation available in respect of this review was extremely limited and ESITO consulted with the senior cable jointer at Northpower.  It was established that since the original registration of the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer - Specialist) (Level 5) some terminology and practices had changed, as had some voltage ranges which cable jointers work on.  The standards and the qualification were therefore revised to reflect these changes, and two standards were designated expiring.

Main changes resulting from the review

Standards covering the processing and control of oil and gas in cables were removed from the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Cable Jointer - Specialist) (Level 5) as these practices are no longer undertaken by cable jointers.  Standards were reviewed and voltage ranges were added to standards or amended to reflect the ranges that cable jointers now work with.
